The 2025 cycle is the cleanest template for what a Sec 4N family should expect each December. Results were released at 2pm on 18 December, and of the 8,987 N(A) and 4,479 N(T) candidates, 99.4% and 97.7% respectively earned their certificates. Then the calendar accelerated.

Read that table twice and one thing jumps out: the DPP decision has four days, over the December holidays, while the PFP decision waits for January. A family comparing both routes is really making the comparison in November, because December does not leave room to start from zero. Progression to Secondary 5 requires a raw ELMAB3 of 19 points or lower, English, Maths and best three subjects, with at least Grade 5 in every subject counted. In 2025, 76.4% of the N(A) cohort met it. One nuance from MOE worth knowing: schools consider the combined N-Level and school based O-Level prelim results when determining progression, because 56.3% of N(A) candidates were already sitting some O-Level subjects.
Every year I watch the same scene: a family opens the results at 2pm, feels the relief or the sting, and only then starts googling what DPP stands for, with four days on the clock and relatives visiting. The system is not cruel, but it is fast, and speed punishes the unprepared far more than the results do.
So here is the November homework, and it takes one evening. Know the three numbers, 19 for Sec 5 and DPP, 12 for the PFP, estimate honestly where your child will land, and rank the routes for each scenario. Then December becomes execution: results at 2pm, the pre made decision comes off the shelf, and your child spends the holidays being congratulated instead of watching their parents panic at a portal. The best results day gift is a decision already made.
The N(A) certificate is awarded for Grade 5 or better in at least one N(A) subject, and the N(T) certificate for Grade D or better in at least one N(T) subject, which is why the certificate rates sit near 100% while the pathway bars sit much higher.
Yes. Beyond school teachers and ECG counsellors, MOE ran the ECG Centre @ MOE counselling service through the 2025 window, 11 to 26 December, on weekdays 9am to 5pm and Saturday mornings, reachable online or by phone, precisely for families working through the pathway decision.
Not for eligibility: MOE states CCA bonus points are excluded from the ELMAB3 used to assess Sec 5, DPP and PFP eligibility. They do count for posting in the DPP and PFP exercises, so they can decide which course, but never whether.
